'Courage is Contagious', edited by Nick Haramis with a foreword by Lena Dunham.

Here at HF, we love Michelle Obama and we’re not alone. ‘Cool, driven, calm and inspiring’, just some of the adjectives used by the authors of a new collection of essays, Courage Is Contagious, published this week, paying tribute to Michelle Obama’s influence in The White House and beyond. We couldn’t agree with this description more.

The new Lenny’s imprint from Random House offers a collaborative work between Lena Dunham and Jenni Konner of the weekly online newsletter, ‘Lenny’, and magazine editor Nick Haramis. Dreamt up before the 2016 election, it makes  for poignant reading for those who miss her.

Different facets of Michelle Obama are remembered. These short essays reflect what she meant personally to the authors, who in turn, celebrate her humour, grace and tenacity in speaking up on issues of race, women’s rights, education, healthy eating & inequality, alongside her ability to inspire and her sense of style. Contributors include students, activists, designers and actors who remember Michelle Obama and explain how she has influenced them. Their little vignettes confirm that she seems an altogether thoroughly good woman.

An easy listening audiobook that you can dip into when you feel like listening to something warm and fuzzy in these Obama-free, frostier times. If it makes you yearn for a blast of warm air and happier times, you could always watch the YouTube clip of James Cordon’s ‘First Lady Michelle Obama Carpool Karaoke’, where the demob-happy First Lady belts out Stevie Wonder’s ‘Signed, Sealed, Delivered, I’m Yours’, with gusto. A reminder of happier times.

Courage Is Contagious, is edited by Nick Haramis & published by Random House. The hardback is available to pre-order, or to download now as an audiobook. It’s on the HF kindle accompanying us on the move.
