Informed decisions (about the menopause) are good decisions!

Dr karen morton, founder of ‘dr morton’s -the medical helpline’, shares An exciting study, and an opportunity!

The gynaecology experts at Dr Morton’s – the medical helpline© are delighted to announce that they are teaming up with Medopad, a ground-breaking global healthtech company, to evaluate the benefits of collecting hard data to inform choices on management of menopause symptoms.

Women’s health needs can be poorly served within our over-stretched NHS and Dr Morton’s is on a mission to provide affordable, convenient access to gynaecologists as well as GPs who share their view about the importance of women’s health. Women so often ‘put-up’ with major health problems fearing they are a nuisance. They are not!!

Awareness of the importance of Menopause is gaining huge momentum due to the fantastic work of people like Ann and Jo from Hot Flush. We are very grateful that they have agreed to help us to recruit 200 perimenopausal women with the offer of three months’ Free access to expert gynaecologists, plus Free download of the My Dr Morton’s Menopause app for recording symptom data, to benefit (hopefully), both you as a user to see patterns and monitor treatment, and by sharing it with your gynaecologist, that they too may see objective evidence of how their treatments are working.

The plan

  • Women between the age of 45 and 55 years. Women may be peri or postmenopausal and can either be taking treatment for menopausal symptoms or not

  • Must own a Smartphone

  • Women will click through to the Dr Morton’s Menopause app Study website where after agreeing the terms and conditions of the study they will be invited to download Dr Morton’s Menopause App and complete their symptom and wellbeing data.  Once you have downloaded the App and completed the starting questionnaire, you will begin collecting your menopause data. After 2 weeks Medopad will send you an email asking you to tell us about how the data collection is going, and Dr Morton’s will send you the link to register for your gynaecology consultations. All your medical consultations with our gynaecologists or our GPs for other medical issues will be Free for three months from then. Women who register with Dr Morton’s – the medical helpline will be asked to set up a GoCardless account in case they wish to have medication prescribed or decide to use any of Dr Morton’s other services.

  • Dr Morton’s suggest that you collect data for two weeks before ringing the Gynaecologist for an initial consultation. The doctor will ask if you are happy for them to view your Dr Morton’s Menopause app data at the time of the consultation. Treatment may be prescribed or may be recommended for the woman to go to her GP to ask for a prescription. Any difficulty in using the Menopause app will be addressed by the Medopad support team. The customer will be expected to ring at least once more to speak with the gynaecologist before the three-month trial is over but can call at any time they need to. Our gynaecologists are available from 7pm to 11pm and no appointments are necessary. Our GPs are available from 7am to 11pm and will be happy to help with any medical issue.

  • At the end of three months you will be asked to complete a short questionnaire to see if you found the collection and sharing of symptom and well-being data helpful in ensuring that your problems were taken seriously. Did it help you to look at things objectively and was it helpful in your decision-making process? The doctors will similarly be asked whether the availability of data improved their ability to help you.

Dr Morton’s will only be recruiting 200 women. Learn more about the study and the service through this link to get started, now.
